This image is my third attempt of drawing a green
swimsuit; some more will follow. It is a college of randomly marbled papers,
together with ink
drawing (black and white ink) and pencils (hair, eyes and lips). The
highlighted regions on the swimsuit are obtained by a combination of white
ink and scratching off the green oil paint of the paper.
The image is based on a photo, and the photographer had the idea
“well, why don’t we comb your hair in a more interesting way,
like the girls on professional photos, like undergarment advertisments,
instead of an ordinary parting in the middle?”. So the result looks
pretty good, but also a little bit like an undergarment advertisment,
especially together with that “look at my swimsuit”-pose. But
who cares?

This image surfaced some days later. The title does not result from the fact
that I can’t count till six (allthough mathematicians are sometimes
said of being unable to perform such trivial tasks as counting, I am quite
aware that there is no bijective mapping between the set of faces on that
picture and cardinal number seven), but I thought that “seven
faces” sounds more mystically than “six faces”. It is again
an attempt to use one basic model to express different things.
Since the
resolution of the computer graphic of the original picture is a little bit
poor, here is an enlarged detail:
This inspired me to re-do my drawing from 1998-01-23. This time, it is just
a drawing, without any marbled papers:

I have also written a tale about a girl with a
green swimsuit.

A combination of two recurrent themes: green swimsuits and chastity belts.
Even this combination is a recurrence of an earlier image.
I wrote a little text
about it (German).

Pheidias, Polyktet, Kresilas and Phradmon had a contest making a statue of
a dying amazone warrior. The results have not survived, but we still have
roman marble copies of the original bronze works, for example, the
so-called kapitolinian amazone, and this is the amazone that is shown by my
drawing.

Another attempt within the green swimsuit saga. This inspired me to try to
write two animations. The first one is based on a java applet I wrote
myself:

You may also download
nummernreiterin.zip (51 KB zipped, 56 KB unzipped); this
files contains the necessairy class, the source code, the image with the
digits, the image with the partly transparent girl, the html-file and the
background image.

“Waves” |

This is another applet. It slides between three images:
a hokusai image,
an inverted image
and
the non-inverted image,
all of them combined with the green swimsuit image.
As of 2000-12-17, I made two more animations based on the green swimsuit
drawing. The first one,
Lyapunov Swim Suit,
uses an animated GIF
lyapanim.gif
with more than 1 MB (since it consists of 78 single frames), so it may
take a few minutes to load. More information about Lyapunov fraktals are
available on my
Lyapunov Page.
If you happen to use a browser capable of displaying true color PNG files
with full alpha channel support, you may instead prefer to look at the
Lyapunov
Swim Suit de luxe Page
A less byte-heavy animation is the
Hue Shift Suit
using some modest Java (with all files together less than 100 KB).
And on 2001-05-24, I made another Java Applet with full alpha support:
The Alpha Numbers Applet.

Another variation, with the colors of the background virtually filled within
the machine. I should have had the contrast and saturation of the scanned
drawing increased.

This consists of two pieces of decalcomanie (green and flesh-color), glued
on black paper, with pencils, black and white ink. A rare landscape
format version of the green swimsuit.
I collected 12 green swimsuit images and used them for a screen saver. See
the Free Files
Page for details.

I used ten green swimsuit images for a seamles tile. Ressembles a crowded
beach, I think; also available as
Windows-Bitmap
(if you want to use it as a desktop-wallpaper, for example).
